West Vancouver is one of Canada’s affluent communities, located on the North Shore across Burrard Inlet via the Lions Gate Bridge ( picture above ) from Vancouver.  The municipality is also one of the most scenic in Canada. It boasts a ski slope, gorgeous parks, beaches, and other attractions. West Vancouver, BC, formed as a district municipality in 1912,  with population of 50,000 approximately.  The District of West Vancouver is located on the north coast of Burrard Inlet, limited to the west by Howe Sound, to the east by North Vancouver, and to the north by the Hollyburn, Strachan, and Black mountains. Until 1912, it was known as the District of NORTH VANCOUVER’s West Capilano area.  Some homes in West Vancouver date back to the 1920s and 30s, though most of the currently existing dwellings were built in the 1970s and 80s, and mostly in British Pacific Properties developments.  West Vancouver is mostly a residential neighbourhood and home to movie stars, professional athletes, old-wealth families and successful business people from around the world.  Many inhabitants are also retired, work from home and commute to downtown Vancouver. By legislation, West Vancouver has no manufacturing industry.  Marine Drive’s 13-block business zone includes stores, small offices, garages and petrol stations, restaurants, banks, and other common services. The region between 13th and 19th Streets is known as Ambleside Village, whereas the section between 24th and 26th Streets is known as Dundarave Village. The Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association serves this commercial region. Park Royal Shopping Centre, Canada’s first mall, is also located in West Vancouver. It was built in the 1950s and now takes up two kilometres (1.2 miles) on both sides of Marine Drive in North Vancouver. Park Royal is British Columbia’s second largest mall, behind Metrotown in Burnaby.
